Offline Voice Notes & Summary — Privacy Policy
Voice Notes records a spoken note, transcribes it and produces a structured summary — key points, decisions, action items and follow-up dates — entirely on your phone. Like Keepsake, it does not merely decline to upload your recordings: it declares no internet permission at all, so it cannot transmit anything, even in principle. You can verify this yourself in Android's app info screen, under Permissions.
The short version: this app collects nothing, sends nothing, and has no account. Your recordings, transcripts and summaries stay on your device.
Information collected
None. The app has no sign-up, no user accounts, no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. We do not receive your audio, your transcripts, your usage, your device identifiers or your location.
Where your data lives
Everything the app creates stays in its private storage on your device: the audio you record or import, the transcript produced on your phone by the bundled speech-recognition model, the summary generated from that transcript, and any edits you make to either. No copy is sent to NextLayer Technology or to any third party. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. Because there is no cloud copy, please keep your own backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Speech recognition
Transcription runs on the device using a speech model delivered with the app itself, not a cloud service. That is why it works in airplane mode, on a plane, underground, or anywhere without a signal. No audio, transcript or summary is sent anywhere for processing, and nothing you record is used to train anything — we never receive it.
Permissions, and why each exists
- Microphone — to record voice notes. Recording happens only when you start it.
- Notifications — to show transcription progress while it runs.
- Foreground service — transcription runs as a foreground task so Android does not throttle or kill it partway through a long note.
- Wake lock, network state, run at startup — required by Android's standard background-work library to schedule and resume that task. The app does not use them to transmit anything, and network state is read-only connectivity information.
The app does not request internet access. That is not a policy we promise to follow; it is a capability the app does not have.
Backups
Android's automatic cloud backup is switched off for this app. Your recordings and notes are excluded from Google Drive backup and from device-to-device transfer, so they do not leave your phone that way either.
Data you choose to send
When you share or export a note as text or Markdown, it is handed to Android's share sheet and goes wherever you send it. That transfer is yours, not ours, and it happens only when you tap share.
Deleting your data
Deleting a note removes its database entry, its audio file and its decoded audio cache from your device immediately. Uninstalling the app removes everything. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing for you to request from us and nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
Children
This app is a productivity tool, is not directed at children, and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it, and the current version is always published here. A version of the app that collects nothing will never quietly become one that does.
